How bad is your church?

What would you do to get out of going to church. One kid in Utah took ‘getting away’ to the extreme.

For a church in Utah it was apparently bad enough to prompt a 7-year-old to steal the family car and drive himself home. The boy told his father he didn’t want to go to church. There’s even YouTube video of the police chase.

As goofy as this story is (and dangerous–the boy ran a stop sign and nearly hit another motorist), it does prompt an obvious question for folks like us: Is your church a place kids (or anybody) would love to be? Or is your church so bad visitors would engage in a little grand theft auto to escape? (via Tony Morgan)

Just a Minute

Tany and I are off to see ‘Just a Minute’ recorded tonight.

‘Just a Minute’ is a BBC Radio pannel game, where contestants must speak for 60 seconds on a given subject without pausing, hesitating or deviating. It’s fun, at least it is when you listen to it on the radio, so I hope that seeing it recorded will be just as entertaining.

The video above should give you a taste of what’s going on. There are six parts to it.

April Fools Day revisited – what stories should have been true?

On 1st April every year the UK has this strange event called April Fools Day. For the morning only, you are allowed to tell tall tales (make up stories) and try to get others to believe them. The Church Mouse has published a list of his favourites here.

1. Government proposes walking speed limit for pensioners
2. Gordon Brown wins the Nobel Peace prize
3. Iain Dale rejects the Orwell Prize and hands his place to Derek Draper
4. Guardian to go Twitter only
5. Rowan Williams shaves off his beard for the G20
6. Generating energy from fish
7. Lichfield Cathedral to rename its towars due to political correctness gone mad
8. The Mouse’s very own little jest – Gordon Brown to take the Alpha Course

They’re all a little bit silly and often you end up waking up the following day wishing you hadn’t fallen for such a blatant untruth. However, occasionally there’s something that you wished had come true. So my question to you, which April Fools Day story did you hear that you wished wasn’t make believe?
