Engage Team 2010 – a unique experience of mission
Each summer Wycliffe Bible Translators in the UK send teams of people to visit translation projects in different parts of the world. We call these Engage teams and this year there are planned 4 week trips to Cambodia, Indonesia and Cameroon.
The real purpose of Engage is to provide the opportunity for Christians in the UK [...]Feb 24th, 2010 | Filed under Wycliffe -
God: New evidence
Do we live in a universe created by accident, or was there a design and a purpose behind our environment?
God: New evidence is a series of videos examining some of the theory behind the universe, looking at the issues of how we can exist in the way that we do, in what has previously been [...] -
Best use of my time
Our church is having a stab at working through The Purpose Driven Life. It’s not a ‘you must do this’ kind of thing, or ‘the best book ever written (after the Bible)’ but rather a theme for the start of the year. Tany and I both had the book and have tried previously to work [...]

Engaging the media
Charlie Beckett of the LSE addressed a group at Cumberland Lodge about Religion and the News. In it he said,
This is a dreadful time for people who think the media is only there to promote what they think.
It’s a tough one to swallow. Nobody likes to be challenged over what they think, and increasingly we [...]Oct 14th, 2009 | Filed under MediaTags: growing like God, Media -
Why is, ‘You can do it’, so hard to say?
It was late last night when Tany and I almost fell into the trap of watching a TV programme about teenagers who appeared to have swapped their lives in the UK for a place in a school in South Africa. That was what I took to be going on but as I didn’t see the [...]

A personal story of discipleship
Thanks to Mark for this post – Time for some honesty – I’m finding it hard to get my head around applying discipleship to my life. This post has helped.
Now as a disciple of Jesus I am with Him by choice and by His grace I am learning how to live in the Kingdom – [...]Aug 26th, 2009 | Filed under Religious -
Optimistic (or deluded) over church growth
The front page of this month’s Quadrant, a Christian Research publication, presents data stating that Christians are optimistic about the future of church attendance. Most are predicting an increase in the number of people that will be joining congregations across the country. I’d love to think that they are right, but somehow I’m not convinced.

“Incarnation and translation” – A devotion for the Window on Wycliffe (WOW) course
Yesterday morning (Wednesday) I was responsible for leading devotions for the group taking part in the Window on Wycliffe (WOW) course. We were looking at God’s incarnation in Jesus Christ and this being a translation of who God is into the world.
The summary of what I did and say goes as follows…

Legalistic, opinionated or right?
Hamo has blogged about the issue of legalism in the church, he says,
I went thru my own rather bizarre legalistic period as a teenager, but I am more and more coming to believe that the ability to truly leave legalism behind is a mark of Christian maturity – although the legalists will call it ‘liberal’ [...]Jun 11th, 2009 | Filed under ReligiousTags: growing like God -
The God of all time
I was at Redcliffe College on Tuesday night attending a lecture by Revd Dr Chris Wright. His title was “Prophet to the Nations” Missional Reflections on the Book of Jeremiah. He spoke about how the book of Jeremiah could be read from a missional point-of-view by using four themes…
The missional framework of the biblical narrative
