Sunday morning – Ouagadougou style!
Even I can understand the point of church starting at 8am when it gets as warm as it does here – 400 people crammed together at 11am just wouldn’t work.
This morning we visited the Assemblies of God church in Ouagadougou with a colleague from the centre here. It was everything you would expect from a [...] -
The church isn’t here to meet your needs, get over it!
I think I have said before that the whole church hunting process we are going through at the moment has left me completely underwhelmed. Sunday evening felt just like we were going through the motions of being at church, rather than being part of a church. Everything was fine and OK and right and good… [...]

How bad is your church?
What would you do to get out of going to church. One kid in Utah took ‘getting away’ to the extreme.
Kevin D. Hendricks from Church Marketing Sucks posts the following. For a church in Utah it was apparently bad enough to prompt a 7-year-old to steal the family car and drive himself home. The boy told [...]

Optimistic (or deluded) over church growth
The front page of this month’s Quadrant, a Christian Research publication, presents data stating that Christians are optimistic about the future of church attendance. Most are predicting an increase in the number of people that will be joining congregations across the country. I’d love to think that they are right, but somehow I’m not convinced.

Silent Friends Chapel, Dallas
There are some things in the world that I would love to see. Great Wall of China, the Pyramids, Uluru… but then, this world is all about the people in it, so added to that list comes Silent Friends Chapel in Dallas.
From Pubols Postscript
I visited Silent Friends Chapel in Dallas on Sunday. It is a [...]Jun 12th, 2009 | Filed under Religious -
How the church can encourage marriage
Just a thought, how about your local church taking a full page advert out in the local paper and offering a ‘Free Wedding‘. That’s right, after bellyaching about the number of people not getting married today, why not make it easier for them and offer to do a basic marriage for Free?

UK Church Administrators Network (UCAN)
A friend has passed me details of the UK Church Administrators Network (UCAN), to share. It’s simply a group for people who are working in church administration to join and network, with the possibility of some organised training in the future.
For everyone from senior manager, through PA and secretary, to project co-ordinators, this is really [...]Apr 20th, 2009 | Filed under UncategorizedTags: church, management -
Is it really all about bums on seats?
This week I was reading about Tearfund’s research saying that church attendance is going up,
‘Our understanding is that more people are attending now than before, even if that is only a couple of times a year rather than every week. This might mean going to church at one of the high points in their family’s [...]Apr 9th, 2009 | Filed under Religious -
Church growth – the Korean model
I’m just catching up on a raft of old blog posts that I should have read a while ago but didn’t get around to. Anyway, Marko has been out to Korea to talk about publishing out there, his accounts of the trip are well worth a read.
The post that caught my eye though is from [...]Feb 12th, 2009 | Filed under Religious -
Seize the Day: Brandon Dickerson interview
You probably don’t remember, but in April 08 I managed to combine my holiday with a few interviews with church leaders working in different situations. Since then a suitable slot for the interviews hasn’t been forthcoming, until now. Seize the Day is a new podcast from Focus.
You can listen to it to get more [...]Jan 27th, 2009 | Filed under Focus
