I stayed up all night and still didn’t get a result

The British political system seems to be a bit like the sport of cricket, after days of action somehow we seem to have landed up with a draw.

OK, I didn’t quite stay up all night. By 3am it seemed pretty clear that the exit polls were right and that we were going to end up with a hung parliament so I cleared off to bed.

I guess it leaves us in a bit of a mess. I don’t mean in the way that Greece is crumbling under national debt, although, we’re not in great financial shape; but it does make me wonder if we haven’t got a bit of a tired electoral system. Going through this whole process and not being able to come away with one clear winner seems a bit stupid. Add to that the debacle of people being turned away from the polls and you have to wonder if the best thing that this coalition could do is to reform the electoral process to ensure we don’t end up in this situation again.

Either that or we lock all MPs in the commons chamber and turn on the TV cameras. Once a week we could phone up and vote one out until we’re left with a Prime Minister and enough to form a cabinet… maybe no this year.
