Such a good week

Twitter and Facebook status’ will never give me enough room to enable me to bring you all up-to-date with the happenings of this week.

Decisions made

Designers have been appointed to take care of the new Wycliffe UK website and to give the finishing touches to the new Wycliffe Bible Translators logo for the UK.

News released

Two press releases were sent to update the world with progress made by Wycliffe and partner organisations, locally and worldwide.

One deals with the new roof (desperately needed) on the building named Carmichael, here at the Wycliffe Centre. Now we can keep our students warm and dry through the winter. Conference guests shouldn’t worry, they get the posh accommodation.

The other release was about the arrival of the Kodiak in Papua New Guniea. A very cool plane that will serve Bible translation well.

Global Connections Forum

I spent Wednesday with a group in central London, discussing how the Diaspora and Ethnic churches in the UK can be engaged in mission. Very challenging and thought provoking, especially at a local church level.

Mobilisation

This afternoon I spent time with another Wycliffe department, Mobilisation, thinking about how we engage in short and medium term mission. My involvement stemmed from my response to the Missions Dilemma video. It was good to spend time with a team with such enthusiasm and energy.

The result

I look at all that on paper and think it looks like a lot, but personally I feel that I could have achieved so much more. Strange way to feel at the end of what I know has been a good week.

A quick thought

I shared this with the Mobilisation team this afternoon, so I may as well record it here so that I don’t completely forget it.

When I joined Wycliffe, Eddie shared with a group that God could do everything that we aim to do, immediately and by himself. He doesn’t ‘need’ us in the way that we like to be needed. Instead he chooses to work with/through us.

This afternoon we sat discussing plans, asking if we were doing mission in the right way, seemingly going round in circles not coming to any conclusion that would satisfy all the questions. But, what did happen through that process, is that we thought about God. We questioned our motives, we thought about how we could do things in a way that would better reflect who God is and better show our desire to serve him. We, collectively, were being refined; we moved a little further along that journey to knowing God better.

We may never get to the answer we want, but I long to keep having conversations that change me like that did.
