A good translation does much more than give people access to the Bible. It brings education and the chance for people to learn to read for themselves, regardless of their stage in life. In fact, a well written language can  be understood by nationals far quicker than you may have imagined.

Cornish man in Africa writes about the experience of one woman from the dedication of a New Testament translation in Togo.

I regretted so much that my parents were not able to send me to school and that I’d never learned to read or write. So when the opportunity came to take the literacy class in Ifè, my mother-tongue, I did so gladly. And I did well. Before I was blind, now I can see. That’s why my favourite Bible passage is John 9:1-12, the story of Jesus healing a man born blind.
