Do big numbers really matter

We (as in Wycliffe UK) are in the process of redeveloping our website. As part of it we need to put together a brief to give design companies to tell them what we want them to do. One of the questions I’m trying to answer is – What does success look like? In other words, what are the outcomes that will make our website successful.

It’s really tempting to put down the simple answer – I want the number of visitors to the site to increase by 50%, or something like that, but in actual fact, that’s probably not what I want to happen.  Instead I want the number of visitors to the site who take positive action to increase. I’d like our website to encourage more people to join Wycliffe, pray for Wycliffe and give money to Wycliffe. I’d like more people to feel that they are part of the Bible translation process and that they know what’s going on here and how they can best support us. If that means we need to reach more people that’s OK, but if it means we can encourage those who are already interested in us to make more of a commitment without raising visitor numbers, then that’s OK too.
