How do you finish a sermon?

I’ve heard it plenty of times…

“If you’re here this morning and you aren’t a Christian you may want to reflect on…”, and then, “…but if you are a Christian you may want to think about…”.

Sermon points are segmented according to your point-of-view.

As a marketing guy maybe I should be enthralled by this idea of different outcomes according to who you are, but, to be honest, it’s a bit like the website that tries to cater for everyone and as a result fails to connect with anyone.

I don’t really think the Bible has multiple messages according to who you are. I honestly believe that it presents one message that we can all engage with, in different ways, according to our own points-of-view. A preachers responsibility is to present this overall message as clearly as possible.

Well, that’s what I think anyway.

  1. I’ve heard many a good sermon … I think they might of been great … if the Speaker had shut up at the end and allowed the Holy Spirit within to draw the conclusions, many Speakers “I” feel don’t know how to conclude.
