I’ve heard it plenty of times…
“If you’re here this morning and you aren’t a Christian you may want to reflect on…”, and then, “…but if you are a Christian you may want to think about…”.
Sermon points are segmented according to your point-of-view.
As a marketing guy maybe I should be enthralled by this idea of different outcomes according to who you are, but, to be honest, it’s a bit like the website that tries to cater for everyone and as a result fails to connect with anyone.
I don’t really think the Bible has multiple messages according to who you are. I honestly believe that it presents one message that we can all engage with, in different ways, according to our own points-of-view. A preachers responsibility is to present this overall message as clearly as possible.
Well, that’s what I think anyway.
I’ve heard many a good sermon … I think they might of been great … if the Speaker had shut up at the end and allowed the Holy Spirit within to draw the conclusions, many Speakers “I” feel don’t know how to conclude.
Good point. I’ve always liked the way the HS works without our input… or maybe that should be despite our input.
